Hello, everyone! Buckle up because former President Donald Trump has once again stirred the political pot and this time, it’s at the National Association of Black Journalists convention. Trump accused Vice President Kamala Harris of playing race games, questioning her racial identity during a fiery interview.

Trump was asked if Harris was chosen for the Democratic ticket because she is black. His response? Pure Trump.

“I’ve known her a long time indirectly, not directly, very much, and she was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage,” Trump said in a video posted to X. “I didn’t know she was black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn black, and now she wants to be known as black.” The audience murmured in reaction to his controversial comments.

He continued, “So I don’t know, is she Indian, or is she black?” Host Rachel Scott of ABC attempted to interject, but Trump spoke over her. “I respect either one, but she obviously doesn’t because she was Indian all the way, and then all of a sudden, she made a turn, and she went — she became a black person. I think somebody should look into that, too.”

When Scott asked if it was acceptable for Congressional Republicans to call Harris a “DEI hire,” referring to diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, Trump didn’t mince words. “I really don’t know. Could be. Could be,” he said.

Harris, the daughter of a Jamaican father and an Indian mother, has always identified with both heritages, ABC noted. But Trump wasn’t backing down, insisting someone investigate Harris’s sudden shift in racial identity.

During what many described as a combative appearance, Trump touted his accomplishments for black Americans. “I have been the best president for the black population since Abraham Lincoln,” he declared, according to Politico.

Harrison Fields, a former assistant press secretary in the Trump White House, noted that Trump was playing to a hostile crowd. “This is consistent with who Trump is,” Fields said. “Trump is going to go to places that aren’t necessarily his comfort zone, but he understands the value of having these conversations.”

Of course, the media flipped out:

In classic Trump fashion, he stirred up controversy and kept everyone talking. Whether you agree with him or not, one thing’s for sure: Trump never shies away from a fight. Stay tuned, folks, because this election season is shaping up to be a wild ride.
