Well, it’s finally happening. The Department of Education—one of the biggest federal bureaucratic disasters of the last half-century—is now in Trump’s crosshairs, and the Left is absolutely losing it. According to reports, top Trump officials are circulating a draft executive order that would begin the process of dismantling the DOE and returning education policy to the states where it actually belongs. And honestly, this might be one of the best moves Trump has ever made.
For decades, the Department of Education has ballooned into a bloated, ineffective bureaucracy that spends more time pushing leftist indoctrination than actually improving education. Since its creation in 1979 under Jimmy Carter, test scores have stagnated, graduation rates have barely budged, and America’s ranking in global education has steadily declined. But what has increased? The size of the department’s budget, the number of useless bureaucrats it employs, and, of course, the amount of taxpayer dollars being flushed down the drain.
Trump’s executive order wouldn’t immediately abolish the department—that requires an act of Congress—but it would direct Education Secretary nominee Linda McMahon to come up with a plan to make it happen. And let’s be real, the moment that plan is in place, you know Trump is going to start throwing weight behind it. Some in the administration are reportedly advising Trump to wait until after McMahon’s confirmation to sign the order, probably to avoid giving Senate Democrats an excuse to stall her nomination even further. But whether it happens this week or next month, the writing is on the wall: the Department of Education’s days are numbered.

Of course, the Left is already in full meltdown mode because they know exactly what this means. For years, they’ve used the Department of Education as their own personal propaganda machine, forcing woke ideology into classrooms, pushing radical gender policies on kids, and rewriting history to fit their activist narrative. And let’s not forget Biden’s illegal and unconstitutional attempt at mass student loan forgiveness—a political stunt disguised as a policy. If Trump moves forward with dismantling the DOE, all of that goes up in smoke.
And speaking of things going up in smoke, Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (arguably one of Trump’s most brilliant creations) is already looking into ways to trim the DOE down through executive action. Because if Congress won’t act, you can bet Trump and Musk will find ways to force this bloated agency to scale back. And guess what? It’s already working. Thanks to Trump’s executive order cutting DEI initiatives from the federal government, dozens of employees in the Department of Education’s so-called “diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility” office have already been put on leave. That’s right—taxpayer-funded activists who spent their days dreaming up ways to inject identity politics into the classroom are suddenly out of a job. And the best part? This is only the beginning.
Naturally, the media and the Democrat establishment are going to cry “authoritarianism” and act like Trump is trying to burn down the entire education system. But let’s be honest—what has the Department of Education actually done for students over the past 40+ years? Test scores have plummeted, school choice has been actively fought against, and teachers’ unions have been given unchecked power to put their political agenda ahead of students’ needs. If anything, getting rid of the DOE isn’t “dismantling” education—it’s saving it.
The fact is, America’s education system was far better before the federal government got its hands on it. Schools were accountable to parents and local communities—not Washington bureaucrats pushing an agenda. Trump knows this, which is why he’s leading the charge to hand power back to the states, where education policies can actually reflect the needs and values of the communities they serve.

So, while the Left continues to scream about how this is a “threat to democracy” (as they always do whenever their control slips away), the reality is that this is exactly what voters wanted. The American people are sick of taxpayer dollars funding ideological brainwashing instead of actual education. They’re sick of watching students fall further and further behind while federal bureaucrats collect six-figure salaries for doing nothing. And most importantly, they’re sick of Washington politicians thinking they know better than parents.
Again, Trump is proving that he’s not afraid to take on the entrenched bureaucratic machine. And if the Department of Education is finally put on the chopping block? Good riddance. Let the states handle education—and let’s get the federal government out of the classroom.
