The Ban Takes Effect Immediately
President Donald Trump announced he is banning CNN, MSNOW, and Politico from the White House effective immediately. He stated this action results from their constant “reporting” of “FAKE NEWS”. This move happened without prior warning to the press corps.
Trump wrote in a Truth Social post that “Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow”. He claimed MSNOW changed its name from MSNBC due to “lack of viewership and credibility”. He also alleged Politico received an “illegal and ridiculous $8 Million Dollar subscription” directly from the United States Government under Joe Biden.
White House reporter Naomi Lim said the ban appeared to be a “shoot from the hip” announcement. She noted that “The CNN and those other outlets were still on campus, but since then, their hard presses, their hard access cards, have been revoked”.
Reporters Question the Process
White House chief of staff Susie Wiles was not present in the White House when the president made the announcement. Lim observed that “It was actually really lovely to be a part of this press pool” before this sudden change. She added, “We have to keep needling him because the issue is that I don’t think that they actually quite understood what this ban was”.
NBC News reports that the three outlets are suing to safeguard their claimed First Amendment rights. The Washington Examiner reported that Trump announced it in real time via social media. This rapid action has left many reporters confused about the new rules.
The President’s Stated Reasons
Trump wrote, “I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW (who recently changed their name from MSNBC due to lack of viewership and credibility!” The ban also includes Politico (The recipients of an illegal and ridiculous $8 Million Dollar subscription, an All Time Record, directly from the United States Government, under Crooked Joe Biden, in order to keep them ‘alive). Seems like corruption to me!This action stems from their constant ‘reporting’ of FAKE NEWS.
He further stated, “Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America”. The Daily Caller confirmed these quotes came directly from his post.
Legal Action and Backlash
President Donald Trump is facing new backlash following his order barring the outlets. NBC News reported that the legal challenge focuses on free speech rights. The outlets argue they cannot be locked out of the only place they can cover the government directly.
The situation remains fluid as the lawsuit proceeds. Lim stated she does not think the outlets “actually quite understood what this ban was” when it started. The administration has not issued a formal statement beyond Trump’s initial post. The three companies will now have to fight for their access in court.
