Trump Admin Gives Maine 10 Days Says Report

The Trump administration is making it abundantly clear: if Maine wants to keep receiving federal funding, it needs to stop allowing biological males to compete in female sports. And frankly, it’s about time someone stepped in to put an end to this madness. While Governor Janet Mills and her Democratic allies insist on forcing radical gender ideology into every corner of public life, the federal government is reminding them that reality—and Title IX—still exist.

On Monday, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights (OCR) called out the Maine Department of Education, the Maine Principals’ Association, and Greely High School for violating Title IX by allowing biological males to compete in girls’ sports. As OCR’s acting director Anthony Archeval put it, this isn’t complicated: “What HHS is asking of the Maine Department of Education, the Maine Principals’ Association, and Greely High School is simple – protect female athletes’ rights. Girls deserve girls-only sports without male competitors.”

In other words, the Trump administration is enforcing the law as it was originally intended—not as left-wing activists have twisted it to be. Title IX was created to ensure equal opportunities for women, not to erase them by allowing biological males to take their spots on teams, in scholarships, and on podiums.

OCR has given Maine’s education officials ten days to get their act together and sign an agreement affirming compliance with Title IX. If they refuse, they can expect consequences. And yes, that includes losing federal funding, because why should taxpayers across the country be forced to bankroll a state that actively discriminates against female athletes?

This isn’t the first time Maine has been on the receiving end of Trump’s crackdown on this issue. The administration had already pulled funding from the state’s university system, though it was later restored. But apparently, Governor Mills didn’t get the message the first time, because she’s still fighting tooth and nail to keep biological males in female sports. She even threatened legal action if the federal government followed through with cutting funds.

Her defiance came to a head at a bipartisan Governors Working Session at the White House in February. In a moment that perfectly captured the difference between the Trump administration’s no-nonsense approach and the left’s desperate clinging to woke policies, Trump put Mills on the spot.

“Is Maine here? The governor of Maine? Are you not going to comply with it?” Trump asked.

Mills, trying to play it safe, responded, “I’ll comply with state and federal law.”

And that’s when Trump hit her with the undeniable truth: “We are the federal law. You better do it. Because you’re not going to get any federal funding at all if you don’t. And by the way, your population, even though it is somewhat liberal—although I did very well there—your population doesn’t want men playing in women’s sports. You better comply because otherwise you’re not getting any federal funding.”

It’s almost laughable that this is even a debate. The vast majority of Americans—yes, even in liberal states like Maine—agree that biological males shouldn’t be competing in women’s sports. This isn’t a controversial position outside of Twitter echo chambers and activist boardrooms. And yet, here we are, with Democratic leaders like Mills acting as though this is some kind of fundamental human right rather than a blatant and unfair attack on female athletes.

The Trump administration has drawn a clear line in the sand: states that want to keep forcing this nonsense will do so without federal funding. And if Maine’s leadership actually cared about its students—especially its female athletes—it would stop playing ideological games and start enforcing fairness. Because no matter how many activist judges or left-wing bureaucrats try to argue otherwise, biology still matters, and real leadership means protecting the integrity of women’s sports, not sacrificing it to appease a radical agenda.
