When Democrats lose big, the knives come out—and this time, they’re pointed squarely at former Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
After the Republican sweep of the White House, Senate, and House, Democrats have devolved into their favorite pastime: blaming each other. Pelosi once hailed as the shrewdest vote counter in modern politics, now finds herself in the crosshairs of her own party. How the mighty have fallen, right?
MSNBC’s Symone Sanders isn’t pulling punches. After the election debacle, she mockingly questioned Pelosi’s fabled math skills, sniping, “Where’s her calculator now?” Sanders doubled down over the weekend on her MSNBC show, The Weekend, taking another swipe at Pelosi’s leadership—or, as Sanders suggested, lack thereof.
Sanders pointed to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries as an example of what Democrats need but apparently lack in Pelosi. When the show played a clip of Jeffries criticizing Trump’s cabinet picks, Sanders couldn’t resist drawing a stark comparison. “That’s why he’s the Leader,” Sanders remarked, adding a not-so-subtle dig at Pelosi’s recent press appearances. “This is why Hakeem Jeffries is the Leader of the caucus.”
Ouch. But wait, it gets better. Sanders wasn’t just throwing shade for the sake of it. Her criticism came after Pelosi suggested Biden should’ve stepped aside earlier to open the door for alternative candidates—an idea that ruffled plenty of Democratic feathers, especially those still clutching onto the hope of unity. Co-host Michael Steele, apparently stunned by Sanders’ audacity, tried to rein her in with a cautious “well, well, well” and a hand gesture that practically screamed, “Tone it down!”

Meanwhile, Republicans are busy doing what winners do: governing. Trump and his allies are charging ahead with cabinet picks and policy implementation while the Democrats squabble over who’s to blame for their monumental defeat. It’s a little poetic, isn’t it? The party that loves to lecture about “unity” is now embroiled in a public circular firing squad.
Of course, it’s not all smooth sailing for Republicans. Jeffries attempted to attack Trump’s cabinet nominations, singling out RFK Jr. as an example and asking whether these picks represent “the best America has to offer.” It’s a fair enough question—but coming from the party that propped up Biden and Harris for the last four years, the irony is almost too rich.
As Democrats continue their internal meltdown, Republicans are poised to take full advantage. The contrast couldn’t be clearer: one party is bickering over its past mistakes, while the other is focused on the future.
If Pelosi’s star has truly fallen, maybe it’s time for Democrats to do what they do best—form another committee to study what went wrong. Or maybe just keep the popcorn coming, because watching them implode is proving to be pretty entertaining.
