It seems leftists have come up with their next masterstroke of resistance: tanking the economy by… not buying anything.
That’s right—after Donald Trump’s historic election win, sweeping swing states and taking the popular vote in a stunning rebuke of Bidenomics, some on the left have hatched a plan to withhold their dollars to sabotage what’s expected to be a roaring Trump economy. If you can’t beat him, starve capitalism, right?
One particularly animated user on X, with the handle @PrezLives2022, has rallied their 127,000 followers to a mission of frugality. Their plan? Hoard essentials before Trump’s inauguration, swear off eating out and avoid luxuries like new furniture, movies, or even local attractions. And for the pièce de résistance: no new cars until 2028. Presumably, the left plans to scuttle around in their eco-warrior Priuses for the next four years as an act of defiance.
Trump will not have a good economy because we don’t have to let him. I myself plan on paying my bills and saving every penny beyond that. I will not contribute to this economy in any other way.
I will buy some clothes before he takes office and make sure I have everything I need…

Another prominent user, @mmpadellan, who boasts over a million followers, has also joined the penny-pinching resistance. In a tweet dripping with economic illiteracy, they suggested that simply refusing to buy “extra stuff” would somehow crash the economy. Why? Because, according to them, Trump’s policies will make everything “300% more expensive,” a claim that conveniently ignores inflation already at historic highs under Biden.
Over the next four years, I highly suggest folks tighten their belts and spend as little as possible, except for the essentials like food, utilities, rent, etc.
After riding the coattails of President Biden’s AMAZING economy for his first six months in office, trump is going to…

The irony, of course, is thicker than the avocado toast these folks likely still plan to splurge on. Many of the same leftists who are now “tightening their belts” were cheerleading Biden’s economy despite sky-high inflation, record gas prices, and soaring costs of living. They’ve either forgotten or conveniently ignored the economic pain Biden’s policies have inflicted on working-class Americans. Instead, they’re framing Trump’s economy—which hasn’t even started yet—as a looming disaster.
The reality? Trump’s economic policies, dubbed “Trumponomics,” aim to do the opposite. Energy independence, restricted immigration, and targeted tariffs are designed to stabilize costs and boost domestic production. Inflation? Trump’s team has laid out a roadmap to reduce it. As Breitbart Business Digest aptly pointed out, inflation tends to spike more during divided government, a scenario Biden presided over. Trump, coming in with a unified government, has the tools to deliver relief where it’s needed most.
Let’s also address the elephant in the room: the absurdity of trying to sabotage the very economy millions rely on just to spite a political opponent. Newsflash: the voters who handed Trump this decisive victory did so because they trust him to fix the economy. The left’s petty refusal to buy new couches isn’t going to change that. If anything, it only highlights how out of touch they are with everyday Americans.
These so-called economic boycotts are little more than performative virtue signaling. Trump’s economy will rise or fall on real policies, not on whether a few progressive influencers decide to skip Starbucks.
