Michelle Obama Will Not Be Attending Trump Inauguration

Well, it looks like Michelle Obama is skipping another big event, and this time it’s President-elect Trump’s inauguration. Shocking? Not really. In fact, it’s starting to feel like the former first lady has a running streak of “strategic absences” whenever there’s an opportunity to show up and put on a united front for the country. First, she missed former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral last week, and now she’s giving Trump’s second swearing-in ceremony a hard pass. It’s unclear why she’s opting out, but hey, at least Barack Obama is showing up. Small victories.

The news comes as no surprise to anyone paying attention. After all, Michelle has never been shy about her disdain for Trump, famously stating in her memoir Becoming that she would “never forgive” him for the birther controversy surrounding her husband. But let’s not forget that back in 2017, she did manage to attend Trump’s first inauguration alongside her husband and the other former presidents and first ladies, including Hillary Clinton, who had just lost a brutal election to Trump. If Hillary could grin and bear it, what’s Michelle’s excuse this time?

What makes this absence even more noticeable is the backdrop of recent events. At Jimmy Carter’s funeral, all three former presidents—Trump, Obama, and Bush—along with their spouses, managed to put politics aside and act like grown-ups. Yes, Trump and Obama were even seen chatting and laughing together. It was a rare, fleeting moment of civility, and a reminder that, despite our political differences, the institution of the presidency still matters. But apparently, that kind of statesmanship isn’t high on Michelle’s priority list.

Meanwhile, former first lady Melania Trump recently revealed how challenging the 2017 White House transition was thanks to, you guessed it, the Obama administration. According to Melania, they withheld crucial information that would’ve made moving into the White House smoother. “The first time was challenging,” Melania told Fox & Friends. “The information was upheld from us from the previous administration.” This time, however, Melania says she’s ready. She’s got the plans, the furniture, and the packing done. One can’t help but wonder if Michelle’s no-show is yet another subtle jab at the Trumps, a way of saying, “Don’t expect me to play nice.”

As for the inauguration itself, it promises to be a star-studded event that’s distinctly Trumpian in style. Country superstar Carrie Underwood will belt out “America the Beautiful,” and Lee Greenwood, the voice behind “God Bless the U.S.A.,” is set to perform. The ‘70s disco legends Village People are even making an appearance, bringing a little “Y.M.C.A.” energy to the festivities. Say what you want about Trump, but the man knows how to throw a party. Compare that to Biden’s somber and poorly attended 2021 inauguration, and it’s clear which event Americans would rather tune in to.

Of course, the left will clutch their pearls over the whole thing. They’ll grumble about Trump’s choices of performers, complain about JD Vance standing at his side as vice president-elect, and gnash their teeth at the idea of another four years of MAGA policies. But here’s the kicker: the people spoke, the votes were cast, and Donald J. Trump is heading back to the White House, whether Michelle Obama likes it or not.

So, Michelle can sit this one out, but the show will go on—and America will be just fine without her presence. In fact, the rest of the country will be celebrating a peaceful transition of power and a fresh chapter under Trump and Vance. Meanwhile, Michelle’s absence will serve as a quiet reminder of the left’s inability to move on. See you on January 20th, America. Let the celebrations begin!
