On Friday, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg urged for an “immediate ceasefire, justice and freedom for Palestinians and all civilians affected” in a post to social media. The 20-year-old’s call to action quickly received a response from the X account of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denouncing Hamas for its “butchered innocent Israelis” and challenging Greta to “speak up.”
“.@GretaThunberg, Hamas doesn’t use sustainable materials for their rockets which have BUTCHERED innocent Israelis. The victims of the Hamas massacre could have been your friends. Speak up,” Israel posted.

Greta also came under fire after a blue octopus was seen and some claimed it could be viewed as a symbol of anti-semitism. Representatives for Thunberg said it is an emotional support stuffed animal.
In a replacement photo, she and her fellow activists were still displaying signs with the messages “Free Palestine,” “Climate Justice Now,” “This Jew Stands With Palestine,” and “Stand With Gaza.” Saving this picture for her followers to see, Greta also emphasized that “the toy in the picture is a tool often used by autistic people as a way to communicate feelings.” She also clarified her message, stating that “we are of course against any type of discrimination, and condemn antisemitism in all forms and shapes.”
You’ll notice that Thuneburg did not call for the release of any hostages.
It goes without saying – or so I thought – that I’m against the horrific attacks by hamas. As I said, “the world needs to speak up and call for an immediate ceasefire, justice and freedom for Palestinians and all civilians affected.”#StandWithPalestine
