Ah yes, another day, another Democrat governor making it painfully obvious that enforcing immigration laws is simply too much to ask. This time, it’s Wisconsin’s own Tony Evers, who has already made it clear that no matter what state Republicans propose, he’s going to block any effort that dares to support legal immigration and hold illegal immigrants accountable.
State Republicans are working on a bill that—brace yourself—would require local sheriffs to ask people in custody to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. If they can’t? Report them to federal immigration authorities, just like the law already says they should. Oh, and if sheriffs refuse to do their job? They lose 15% of state aid. Seems pretty straightforward—unless, of course, you’re a Democrat whose political survival depends on pretending illegal immigration is a non-issue.
But Evers isn’t just opposing the bill—he’s doing it before he’s even seen it. His spokesperson called it “not a serious proposal” and went straight for the usual Democrat talking points about how Republicans are “threatening law enforcement” and “gutting state aid.” Excuse me? Since when did asking law enforcement to enforce the law become an attack on law enforcement? The last time I checked, cooperating with federal immigration authorities wasn’t some radical idea—it was basic governance. But apparently, in Evers’ Wisconsin, helping deport criminals who shouldn’t even be here is now considered extreme.
Let’s be real: this isn’t about protecting local law enforcement. This is about protecting illegal immigrants at all costs, even when they break additional laws beyond just entering the country illegally. Governor Evers and his party are so committed to open-border policies that they can’t even bring themselves to support a bill that would help remove felons—not families, not asylum seekers, not workers, but criminals. And yet, they’ll turn around and pretend to care about reducing crime and keeping communities safe. You can’t have it both ways.
State Rep. Tyler August called Evers out for his knee-jerk reaction, pointing out that he’s blindly promising to veto a bill he hasn’t even read. Not surprising, considering vetoing Republican-backed bills has been his entire governing strategy. Meanwhile, legislative Republicans are actually trying to work with President Trump to ensure that Wisconsin law enforcement isn’t undermining federal immigration efforts. But that, apparently, is a step too far for Democrats.
And let’s not forget, Evers is just one of many Democrat governors digging in their heels against Trump’s immigration crackdown. The strategy is simple: obstruct, resist, and pretend that enforcing immigration laws is some kind of fringe position. But here’s the problem for them—Americans want immigration laws enforced. They’re tired of the crime, the financial burden, and the complete lack of accountability that comes with open-border policies.
Then there was Adam Schiff, who tried to give his best Selena Gomez impression:

Evers and his fellow Democrats can pretend all they want that illegal immigration is a non-issue, but the reality is catching up with them. The Biden administration’s refusal to secure the border led to an unprecedented crisis, and now that Trump is back, they know the free ride is over. So instead of actually working to protect citizens, they’re doubling down on their opposition, ensuring that states like Wisconsin remain a safe haven for illegal immigrants—criminals included.
This isn’t about law enforcement or state aid. It’s about a Democrat Party that has completely abandoned the idea of putting American citizens first. And if Evers wants to keep pretending that Wisconsin voters support that? He’s in for a rude awakening.
