In 2025, the inaugural year of President Trump’s second term, violent crimes fell by a minimum of 25% in most categories. This figure comes from a new Department of Justice report released Monday. The National Crime Victimization Survey found the largest single-year reduction in its history since 1973.
Aggravated assaults fell by 31%, which equals 390,000 fewer incidents. Burglary and trespassing cases dropped 25%, removing 460,000 crimes from the streets. Motor vehicle thefts decreased by 30%, saving 349,000 cars from being stolen. All other household thefts fell by 19%.
Officials credit strict enforcement tactics
Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward linked these results directly to the President’s safety plan. He stated, “This report is proof that President Trump’s ‘Make America Safe Again’ agenda is working.”Woodward stated that protecting law-abiding Americans remains the top priority for this leadership.
Officials credited the sharp decline to ending cashless bail policies and deploying the National Guard. They also pointed to closing the southern border to illegal immigration as a key factor. Within one month of Guardsmen hitting the streets in Washington, D.C., violent crime there dropped 45%.
Just one year saw the Memphis federal task force arrest 13,000 individuals. They seized over 2,200 illegal firearms while working with local leaders. Murders in that city fell by 37%, and robberies dropped by 47% during the same period.
Survey numbers beat FBI estimates
The survey results show a much steeper decline than the FBI reported earlier this year. The FBI had recorded a 9.3% drop in violent crime, while this new data shows 25%. The discrepancy highlighted by researchers implies the actual crime rate is declining more rapidly than police records show.
The survey interviewed about 240,000 people from 150,000 households across the nation. It captures crimes that victims experienced even if they never called the police. This method revealed 669,000 fewer violent crime victimizations in 2025 compared to 2024.
Per the Daily Wire, the murder rate hit 4.1 per 100,000 people, the lowest level in over 50 years. The data confirms that federal and local cooperation is yielding real results for families.
