Ladies and gentlemen, the drama surrounding the 2024 election just took a bizarre turn with news out of Ashburn, Virginia.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is on the hunt for a man suspected of breaking into the Trump for President 2024 campaign office this past Sunday. And the suspect? 39-year-old Toby Shane Kessler seems to have a knack for attracting trouble.
Here’s what we know: At around 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, deputies were alerted to the break-in. By the time they arrived, Kessler had already vanished into the night, leaving behind a lot of questions and very few answers. Authorities are still trying to figure out what, if anything, was taken from the office—or if Kessler left anything behind.
Sheriff Mike Chapman summed it up best when he said, “It is rare to have the office of any political campaign or party broken into,” which makes this incident all the more intriguing.
Kessler didn’t exactly waltz in the front door, either. Investigators say he forced his way in through the back door, spent a “brief period” inside, and then made his getaway. What he was doing during that time remains a mystery. The office also doubles as the headquarters for the Virginia 10th District Republican Committee, raising the stakes even higher.
And who is this guy, anyway? Well, it turns out Kessler has a bit of a history. He’s got a California driver’s license, but it seems he’s been hanging around the Washington metro area since at least 2018. Court records show that in 2019, he was charged with second-degree assault in Maryland, along with a few other misdemeanors like disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct. He was even arrested in July of that year but managed to post a $500 bond and get back on the streets.
So now, the big question: what was Kessler doing in the Trump campaign office? Was it a random act, or was he after something specific? And why target a campaign office in the first place? The sheriff’s office is determined to find out, but until they get their hands on Kessler, we’re left to speculate.
