Controversial late-night talk show host John Oliver has stirred the pot once again, this time with a shocking offer to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
On his HBO talk show, Oliver offered Thomas a hefty sum of a million dollars per year and a loaded tour bus if he agrees to retire from his position on the nation’s highest court.
Oliver launched into a tirade against Thomas, lambasting him for his apparent lack of enjoyment in his role on the Supreme Court. He argued that Thomas should take the opportunity to leave the court and enjoy the “meanness-free” life outside of Washington.
But while Oliver may have thought he was being clever and generous with his offer, many were quick to call out his actions as inappropriate and even potentially illegal. Some accused Oliver of trying to “bribe” Thomas, as the offer of money in exchange for Thomas to leave his position could be seen as an attempt to influence the decisions of the court.
In addition to the large annual sum, Oliver also promised Thomas a brand new high-end motor coach, which he referred to as a “condo on wheels.” This luxurious vehicle was meant to entice Thomas into leaving his prestigious position.

This is not the first time Oliver has used his platform to mock and criticize conservative figures. His show often takes a left-leaning stance on issues and frequently makes jabs at Republican politicians and conservative leaders.
Justice Thomas has never been one to back down. About a year ago, the Justice delivered a great comeback to the Media and his critics stating:
“One of the things I’d say in response to the media … especially early on, about the way I did my job, I said, ‘I will absolutely leave the court when I do my job as poorly as you do yours — and that was meant as a compliment, really,” Thomas laughed. “It really is getting to be mean.”
