Federal agents seized Ilhan Omar’s phone and passport during a raid on her home Monday. Investigators are now building a case to strip her of her American citizenship and deport her. This is not a minor inquiry. It is a full-scale effort to remove a member of Congress.

According to the Daily Wire, the investigation seeks to prove Omar lied about her age when she arrived from Somalia. She became a US citizen in 2000 after arriving as a refugee in 1995. Officials are checking if she or her father changed her age on the paperwork. They want to show she was 17 instead of 18. That difference changes how she qualified for citizenship.

The Search and the Seizures

Homeland Security Investigations agents conducted the search at her Washington, D.C. residence. The congresswoman and her husband were home when they arrived. Agents took her cellphone, notebooks, personal computers, and her passport. The Daily Wire reported that prosecutors have issued more than 15 subpoenas. These orders went to Omar’s relatives, including her sister, Sahra Noor.

Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, verified the probe’s scope. She said Tuesday that “there are several investigations going on,” including one involving Omar’s financial disclosures. This follows a tip that officials looked at during the Biden administration but did not pursue due to a lack of evidence. Now, the pressure has returned.

Allegations of a Sham Marriage

The probe extends beyond age discrepancies. Vice President JD Vance revealed that the Department of Justice is also looking into marriage claims. The Washington Examiner reported that officials are examining allegations that Omar participated in a sham marriage with her biological brother. The goal was to help him gain residency in the United States. If true, this would be a direct violation of immigration laws.

The Washington Examiner reports that President Donald Trump stated in January the Justice Department is investigating Omar due to financial record discrepancies. This probe seeks to establish grounds for revoking the congresswoman’s citizenship. If she loses her citizenship, she loses her seat in the House. The Washington Times noted she could face decades behind bars if criminal wrongdoing is found.

Omar’s Response to the Raid

Omar has pushed back hard against these actions. Her office released a statement Wednesday calling the effort a political hit job. Among the most effective progressive voices in Congress, President Trump would love to eliminate one. There is no basis for this, Omar’s office said, the Daily Wire reported. She took to social media to accuse the administration of weaponizing law enforcement.

“this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” she declared on X. She added that Trump has targeted her for ten years with baseless lies. Norm Eisen, executive chairman of the Democracy Defenders Fund, wrote a letter demanding a review of the matter. He claimed the actions violated the Hatch Act. The Washington Examiner noted that officials reached out to the Justice Department for comment on these claims.
