Federal agents raided the Washington, D.C., home of Rep. Ilhan Omar early Monday morning. The search stems from a criminal fraud investigation into her immigration paperwork, according to Fox News.
A search warrant authorized by the judiciary and obtained by the Department of Justice was executed by Homeland Security Investigations. The investigation centers on documents completed by her deceased father during her childhood. Fox News Digital first reported the raid before other outlets picked up the story.
The Crowd Reacts at Trump Rally
Just hours after the raid, President Donald Trump took the stage in Youngstown, Ohio. He blasted Omar during his speech as the crowd began to chant “deport.” Trump mocked her background and her claims about rights.
Online Backlash Over Past Words
The internet quickly noticed a gap between Omar’s past words and her current situation. Many on social media pointed to a comment she made in 2023 after Trump was indicted.
The Minnesota Republican Party posted on X that they would defer to her own words. They wrote, “We couldn’t agree more, Congresswoman.” You undoubtedly still hold that sentiment now that the situation concerns your own front door. Conservative accounts echoed this sentiment, noting the irony of her situation.
Omar Calls It Political Intimidation
Omar released a response on X hours after the search commenced. She accused the Trump administration of trying to target political enemies. “this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” she wrote.
She claimed Trump has targeted her for ten years with lies. She declared, “This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.” I will not be silenced. An enforcement action that forms part of a continuing federal investigation was confirmed by a DOJ spokesperson. The investigation is “criminal” in nature.
