Last week, tragedy struck as Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto’s senior advisor, Kurt Englehart, was killed in a car accident in Reno, Nevada.
The driver responsible for the crash was identified as Elmer Rueda-Linares, an illegal immigrant who had entered the country just a month prior. This devastating incident serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing crisis at our southern border.
But shockingly, just two days before this tragic accident, Senator Cortez Masto claimed on MSNBC that there were “no open borders” and that any talk of a crisis at the border was “misinformation.” This statement is not only blatantly false, but it also reveals the disconnect between Democratic politicians and the reality of the situation at our southern border.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Rueda-Linares entered the country illegally on March 12, 2021, through the Rio Grande City, Texas, Port of Entry. This was during a month when Customs and Border Protection reported over 170,000 migrant encounters at the border. That’s over 170,000 individuals attempting to enter our country illegally in just one month.
And yet, Senator Cortez Masto had the audacity to claim that “there are no open borders” and that anyone saying otherwise is spreading misinformation. It’s clear that she and other Democrats are either willfully ignorant or purposely lying to the American people about the severity of the situation at our border.
This incident also highlights the failures of the Biden administration’s policies when it comes to border security. Under President Biden, we have seen a surge in illegal immigration, with individuals from various countries attempting to enter our country without proper documentation. And instead of addressing this problem, the administration has only made it worse by reversing policies put in place by the previous administration to secure our borders.
