Tim Walz Speaks At University of Minnesota Law School Commencement

Oh, here we go again. Another Democratic governor standing at a podium with a law degree in one hand and a thesaurus of World War II references in the other, deciding it’s time to play the “Trump-is-Hitler” card. This time it’s Minnesota’s own Tim Walz—yes, that Tim Walz, the guy who couldn’t even make it past the vice-presidential cut for his own party—deciding to use a law school commencement as his personal stage for what can only be described as historical malpractice.

Let’s break this down: ICE agents executing lawful orders to enforce immigration law are now being likened to Hitler’s Gestapo, according to Walz. That’s not just offensive, it’s laughably ignorant. Last anyone checked, ICE wasn’t running secret torture dungeons or hauling people off in the dead of night to vanish from existence. They’re enforcing laws—laws that, by the way, Congress passed and Democrats used to at least pretend to support before they figured out there were Twitter likes to be had by pretending borders are optional.

Walz went full dystopian fiction mode during his speech, painting this cartoonish image of masked men in unmarked vans “disappearing” poor, innocent folks. It’s the kind of thing that sounds serious until you realize he’s deliberately ignoring due process, criminal adjudications, and the reality that many of these deportations involve actual criminals—including MS-13 gang members like Kilmar Abrego Garcia. That’s the same Abrego Garcia some Democrats were cozying up to like he was Nelson Mandela with a bad haircut. And after ICE lays out a 13-page dossier detailing his gang involvement, these same Democrats still clung to him as a martyr.

But facts have never been Walz’s strong suit. He prefers the drama, the fear-mongering, and the MSNBC headlines that come with equating America’s immigration enforcement with Nazi Germany. And it’s not just bad history—it’s a disgrace to the memory of the actual victims of real Gestapo brutality. Let’s be very clear here: enforcing the law isn’t tyranny. Turning a blind eye to violent criminals because it’s politically convenient? That’s something worth questioning.

And how about the cherry on top—Walz suggesting Trump is “intimidating members of Congress” by, what, enforcing security protocols at ICE facilities? Newsflash: if you’re a sitting member of Congress storming a secure federal facility, there are going to be consequences. But of course, the media narrative requires Democrats to be the brave resistance and ICE agents to be jackbooted villains. Never mind that the Newark ICE facility looks more like a YMCA than a prison camp—outdoor soccer fields, unlocked rooms, phone access, legal aid—yeah, real horror show.

It would almost be funny if it weren’t so serious. Because what’s really going on here isn’t just about Trump or ICE—it’s about the Democrats’ ongoing crusade to delegitimize immigration enforcement altogether. They’ve gone from “reform the system” to “abolish the system” to “anyone who supports borders is a Nazi,” and it’s getting exhausting.

And let’s not forget the bottom line: Trump’s policies are working. Border crossings down 93%. Illegal encounters down. Gotaways? Also down. And while the media tries to memory-hole those stats, Americans haven’t. The polls are basically split down the middle—meaning a lot more people are waking up to the idea that maybe, just maybe, secure borders aren’t fascism after all.

If Tim Walz thinks this kind of overblown rhetoric is going to launch his 2028 campaign, he’s sorely mistaken. Most Americans don’t want melodrama—they want law and order. They want safety. And they’re tired of hearing that protecting your country makes you a villain.
