White House chief of staff Susie Wiles pushed back Friday night against a report claiming she plans to leave her post after the November midterms, calling the story a “piece of fiction.”
Wiles, 69, issued the denial in a statement posted to X shortly after the Daily Mail published an article alleging she was preparing to step down. The report claimed her possible departure was tied in part to tension with President Donald Trump over recent cabinet appointments and other internal disagreements.
“To be crystal clear, I am not going anywhere,” Wiles wrote. “I am honored and proud to serve President Trump, proud of our team and remain fully committed to advancing his agenda on behalf of the American people.”
Wiles also accused some in the media of trying for years to create the appearance of turmoil around Trump and those closest to him.
“They were wrong then, and they are wrong now,” she said.
The Daily Mail report cited unnamed sources who claimed Wiles was upset with Trump’s decision to name Florida real estate executive Bill Pulte as acting director of national intelligence. The story also alleged that Trump had become frustrated with Wiles’ management style.
Wiles rejected those claims in comments to the outlet, calling the suggestion that she does not support Trump’s appointees “completely false and defamatory.”
She said Trump chooses “the best people for his Administration” and that his team works together to carry out his agenda.
Wiles also defended Pulte directly, saying she had seen his work at the Federal Housing Finance Agency and believed he would bring the same drive to the intelligence role.
“I have observed how hard [Pulte] works at FHFA, and I believe he will bring that same energy and tenacity as acting Director of National intelligence,” she said.
Wiles has been one of Trump’s closest political advisers for more than a decade. She joined his first presidential campaign in October 2015 as Florida co-chair and went on to become a key figure in his political operation.
From 2019 to 2024, she served as CEO of Trump’s Save America PAC. She later became co-campaign manager for his 2024 presidential campaign, which ended with Trump returning to the White House. After the election, she was named White House chief of staff.
Her public response to the report was unusually direct, especially for a senior aide who typically works behind the scenes. But the forceful statement made clear that Wiles wanted to shut down speculation about her future before it gained traction.
The report also comes months after Wiles disclosed that she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.
“Nearly one in eight women in the United States will face this diagnosis,” she wrote at the time.
“Every day, these women continue to raise their families, go to work, and serve their communities with strength and determination. I now join their ranks,” she continued.
Wiles said doctors had detected the cancer early and that she was encouraged by a strong prognosis. She also said she was grateful for the medical team guiding her treatment.
