It’s like a bad rerun with this administration—completely out of touch and clueless about what matters to actual Americans.
When President Joe Biden finally made an appearance at the White House on Friday, you might have expected a few words about the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. You know, something like, “Our hearts are with the families of the 200+ Americans who lost their lives,” or maybe an update on efforts to restore power or rebuild roads.
Nope. Biden strolled in, talked up some job numbers, took a couple of questions, and hightailed it out of there without even a mention of the destruction that has shattered countless lives across the Southeast. But hey, at least he’s got job numbers, right?
As if that weren’t tone-deaf enough, enter Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Kamala Harris, who decided to one-up the obliviousness. Instead of addressing the very real needs of American families in North Carolina, they hopped onto X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce $157 million in humanitarian aid. But not for the people struggling here at home—nope, it was for Lebanon.

Meanwhile, homeless, stranded, and starving Americans devastated by Helene are abandoned and left to fend for themselves, literally dying in the streets!

Yes, in the middle of a U.S. disaster, he’s prioritizing aid for a country halfway around the world. His post racked up 8 million views, most of them people ripping into him for his stunning lack of awareness. While families here are wondering where their next meal is coming from after losing everything, Blinken and Kamala are busy touting how the administration is helping displaced citizens—just not the ones in America.

And it doesn’t stop there. Let’s talk about Samantha Power, head of USAID, who decided that the world needed to hear about the administration’s “generosity” towards Ukraine. Power proudly posted about “doubling our investments” in auto-transformers for Ukraine to keep the lights on there. It’s a great gesture but maybe read the room, Samantha. We have towns across the U.S. still without power weeks after Hurricane Helene, roads washed away, and entire communities cut off. How about sending some of those transformers to places like Western North Carolina? Or is that not as newsworthy as yet another overseas investment?
Some Americans still don’t have power from Helene. Some Americans have lost everything.

Meanwhile, private citizens, including people like Elon Musk, are stepping in to do what the government should have been doing from day one. Musk is out there deploying Starlink to restore internet in affected areas—something you’d think the government would have covered already. Local organizations and volunteers are doing the heavy lifting, all while FEMA claims they’re “out of money.” Out of money? Really? That excuse doesn’t quite add up when we see our tax dollars being funneled to every corner of the globe except our own backyard.
People are rightfully furious. The outrage on X was loud and clear, with many asking the obvious question: Do these leaders even like us? Or are they just so determined to fumble the next election that they think posts like these are a good idea? At a time when Americans are struggling and suffering, our leaders are talking about their generosity abroad. It’s almost as if they can’t see the devastation right under their noses—or worse, they just don’t care.
So here’s a pro tip for the Biden administration: when your citizens are reeling from a disaster, maybe focus on getting them back on their feet before handing out millions to foreign countries. Americans deserve leaders who put them first, especially in times of crisis. But sadly, it looks like we’ll have to keep waiting for that.
