You’d think by now we’d have seen every possible form of Trump Derangement Syndrome, but somehow, the left keeps finding new ways to outdo themselves. Case in point: Michigan State Rep. Laurie Pohutsky, who proudly announced this week that she sterilized herself to protest Donald Trump. Yes, really.
Standing in front of a group of anti-Trump demonstrators at the Michigan state capitol, Pohutsky declared, “Just under two weeks ago, I underwent surgery to ensure that I would never have to navigate a pregnancy in Donald Trump’s America.” Now, setting aside the fact that Trump’s actual policies have nothing to do with banning contraception (something he has repeatedly stated he has no intention of doing), one has to wonder—does she think this is the own she imagines it to be? Because last time I checked, nobody was forcing her to have children.

Omg. Mental health crisis.

This was all part of the so-called “50501 Movement”, a grassroots effort that aims to “resist” Project 2025—something the left has convinced themselves is a dystopian nightmare in which women will be forced into The Handmaid’s Tale overnight. In reality, it’s a policy agenda that prioritizes government efficiency, religious liberty, and protections for the unborn at the state level—exactly what the Supreme Court ruled in Dobbs. But sure, voluntary sterilization will really show Trump who’s boss.
And the media, of course, is treating this like a heroic act of resistance. A sitting government official sterilized herself because she was afraid Trump might take away her birth control someday! The fact that the left is celebrating this rather than asking some serious questions about why a state representative felt compelled to undergo a major medical procedure over a hypothetical scenario speaks volumes. Then again, this is the same party that believes biological men should be able to compete against women in sports, so logic isn’t exactly their strong suit.
Meanwhile, Republican State Rep. Matt Maddock showed up to document the spectacle, posting footage of the protest on X. The crowd was, as expected, a charming display of leftist tolerance and reasoned debate. Some protesters waved LGBT flags and American flags, while others held up truly enlightened signs like “Deport Elonia and arrest Donalf Shitler!!” (which, I assume, was supposed to be a clever dig at Trump and Elon Musk, but mostly just proves that spellcheck is a lost art).
Maddock, of course, was met with the usual warm reception conservatives get in these settings. “Get out of here! You don’t belong here!” one protester screamed at him. Another, in a real showcase of progressive feminism, shouted, “This is what real Americans look like, c**!”* Just the kind of respectful political discourse we’ve come to expect from the side that calls itself the party of love and inclusion.
And for what? Trump, throughout his campaign, has been clear that he does not support a national abortion ban and believes it should be left to the states. He has also consistently stated that he supports access to contraception. His most recent executive orders have focused on enforcing the Hyde Amendment (which prevents taxpayer funding of elective abortions) and banning biological men from competing in women’s sports—which, last I checked, was something most rational people agree with.
But to the left, this is all cause for mass hysteria. If they aren’t staging protests over nonexistent abortion bans, they’re sterilizing themselves over fictional threats to birth control. Pohutsky, in response to the backlash, posted on X: “The fact that so many conservative men take personal offense to a decision that I made with my husband about my health care and future just proves the point that we shouldn’t assume that right is secure.”

More power to you. She did the right thing here! She has set the tone. And I think all Democrats should do the exact same thing.… pic.twitter.com/Dsqtt2GM66

Here’s the thing—nobody is actually “offended” that she made this choice. Conservatives aren’t sitting around mourning the loss of future Pohutsky offspring. If anything, they’re just baffled by how far leftists are willing to take their paranoia. But hey, if permanently altering your body over a hypothetical future policy change that isn’t even on the table makes sense to you, by all means—go right ahead.
Trump is back, and the left is unraveling in real-time. If this is the kind of “resistance” we’re up against, 2024 is going to be a very entertaining year.
