Sacchetti Comments On Trump Following Kentucky Derby

It’s Derby season in America—the horses are fast, the hats are ridiculous, and, as always, the liberal media manages to stumble over its own narrative while trying to dunk on Donald Trump. This year’s grand champion of mental gymnastics is none other than Washington Post immigration reporter Maria Sacchetti, who saw a golden opportunity to turn the Kentucky Derby into a political gotcha moment—and predictably, face-planted in front of the nation.

Here’s the scene: the horse named Sovereignty wins the Derby, ridden by Venezuelan jockey Junior Alvarado. Alvarado, by the way, is a legal immigrant. You’d think this would be a story about hard work, talent, and the American Dream.

But no—Maria Sacchetti took one look at that and decided it was time to swing at Trump’s immigration policies. She rushed to X (formerly Twitter, but let’s be honest, it’s still Twitter in our hearts) to post: “Trump officials, who have sought to expel hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans, are celebrating the victory of Sovereignty at the Kentucky Derby. Sovereignty’s jockey, Junior Alvarado, is an immigrant from Venezuela.”

And just like that, she lumped in a legal immigrant athlete with the thousands of people Trump rightly targeted for deportation because they broke our immigration laws and often committed further crimes once here. One of the oldest tricks in the media playbook: pretend the rules don’t matter, and then cry foul when someone enforces them.

Cue the backlash—because shockingly, most Americans can tell the difference between legal immigrants and people who crossed the border in the dead of night with fentanyl or a rap sheet. Conservative voices were quick to call out the willful distortion. Harmeet Dhillon, an actual Assistant Attorney General, reminded everyone that legal immigrants aren’t the issue—and in fact, they’re thriving in Trump’s America. “Stop conflating law-abiding citizens with criminal gangbangers, drug dealers, and human traffickers. We see you,” she said. Amen.

Fox contributor Joe Concha chimed in, too, pointing out the obvious: “The ‘hundreds of thousands’ of Venezuelans Trump is seeking to expel entered illegally.” So, unless Alvarado snuck across the Rio Grande with a duffel bag of cartel cash, Sacchetti’s post wasn’t just misleading—it was pure propaganda dressed up as journalism.

And this isn’t some isolated mistake. This is part of the larger, exhausting effort from legacy media outlets like the Washington Post to smear any attempt at border enforcement as racism or cruelty. These folks act like if you support a secure border, you must be anti-immigrant, anti-Latino, anti-everything.

But here’s the truth they hate: Americans are fine with immigration—legal immigration. We welcome people who play by the rules. What we don’t want is a never-ending parade of people skipping the line, gaming the system, and expecting free healthcare while waving another country’s flag.

Laura Powell, Abigail Jackson, Kurt Schlichter—voices of reason in a media storm—nailed it. This is not about ethnicity, and it never was. It’s about law and order. It’s about a functioning immigration system that actually means something. And frankly, it’s about holding so-called journalists accountable when they deliberately confuse the issue to score cheap shots on Trump.

So let’s raise a glass to Junior Alvarado—a legal immigrant, a talented athlete, and a great example of what’s possible in this country. And let’s also raise an eyebrow at the Washington Post, which apparently still hasn’t figured out that parroting dishonest narratives won’t make their credibility problems go away. Instead of celebrating a success story, they tried to weaponize it. And once again, they got caught in their own spin.
