Reporter Hurt During Candidate Event

Well, folks, you really can’t make this stuff up. Missouri Democratic Senate candidate Lucas Kunce somehow managed to turn a campaign event into a comedy of errors when a bullet fragment from his own gun ricocheted off a target and hit a nearby reporter. Yes, you heard that right—a Democratic candidate who claims to know his way around a gun just sent a journalist home with a bloody arm. This is what happens when Democrats try to play tough guy at the shooting range.

KSHB-TV’s Ryan Gamboa was the unlucky reporter caught in Kunce’s crossfire at a campaign event on Tuesday. The bullet fragment hit Gamboa in the arm, drawing blood. But hey, at least Kunce was there to play hero and wrap the guy’s arm in gauze, even using his own belt as a makeshift tourniquet. Because nothing says “qualified to lead,” like a candidate who can’t hit the target but sure knows how to apply a Band-Aid.

Kunce tried to brush off the incident, saying, “You never know what’s going to happen—shrapnel can ricochet off anything.” Sure, Lucas, but most people shooting for the Senate know how to aim properly. Kunce’s attempt to downplay the situation is about as reassuring as someone saying, “Oops, my bad!” after nearly burning down your house.

But leave it to Senator Josh Hawley to steal the show. Hawley, Kunce’s Republican opponent and a guy who probably doesn’t need a crash course in firearm safety, reacted with a perfect blend of snark and humor. “I condemn all acts of violence against reporters and call on Kunce never to shoot another one,” Hawley quipped on X, throwing in three laughing emojis for good measure. Because, really, what else is there to say? If your Senate opponent is accidentally shooting journalists, you might as well laugh.

Hawley didn’t stop there, either. He couldn’t resist reminding everyone that even his grandmother is a better shot than Kunce. Ouch. That’s the kind of burn that sticks, especially in a state like Missouri, where gun culture runs deep.

And this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Democrats flub their gun credibility. Just last week, Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, had his own “hold my beer” moment while pheasant hunting. Walz struggled to load his own shotgun, prompting more than a few eye rolls from people who actually know how to handle a firearm. At one point, Walz even complained that the gun didn’t “fit quite right” and that the kick “hurts his shoulder.” Tim, maybe leave the hunting to people who don’t need a tutorial.

Between Kunce accidentally shooting reporters and Walz struggling with basic gun mechanics, it’s no wonder voters aren’t buying into the Democrats’ newfound love for the Second Amendment. Sure, they’ll tell you they support gun rights, but watching them fumble around like this is hardly convincing.

So, next time you hear a Democrat talk about their “support” for the Second Amendment, just remember: these are the same folks who can’t load a shotgun or fire at a target without hitting the press. Meanwhile, Republicans like Hawley don’t just talk the talk—they hit the target every time, figuratively and literally.
