Calls for the removal of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) have escalated over the weekend after a viral video surfaced showing the congresswoman making controversial remarks about her allegiance to Somalia. In the video, Omar can be heard telling a group of Somalis that she is working to advance the interests of Somalia while serving in the U.S. Congress.
These comments have sparked outrage from both Republicans and conservatives, who are calling for her immediate resignation. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has even gone as far as to suggest that Omar should be expelled from Congress and deported.
While Omar has attempted to deflect criticism by claiming the translation of her remarks is “slanted,” multiple translations of the video have confirmed that her overarching message is to prioritize the needs of Somalia over those of the United States.
It’s not only slanted but completely off, but I wouldn’t expect more from these propagandists. I pray for them and for their sanity. She then re-posted a message that claimed Ethiopian lobbyists were trying to tarnish her.
Secessionists & Ethiopian lobbyists aim to tarnish @IlhanMN‘s image with misleading subtitles and disinformation, attempting to bully her. The iron lady, resilient against past attacks, remains steadfast, showcasing strength and determination in the face of their smear campaign. https://t.co/SSiT6wcinI

This is not the first time that Omar has come under fire for her controversial statements. She has a history of making anti-Semitic and anti-American remarks, and has been accused of sympathizing with terrorist organizations.
President Donald Trump Jr. was quick to condemn Omar’s latest comments, stating that she is actively putting the interests of Somalia before those of her constituents. He also called attention to the fact that her remarks are not just hyperbole, but a reflection of her true beliefs and priorities.
Even members of her own party are speaking out against her. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) called on Omar to resign in disgrace, stating that her comments are a direct violation of her oath of office. He also accused her of betraying the very people she was elected to represent.
Other Republican representatives, including Reps. Mike Collins (R-GA), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and Diana Harshbarger (R-TN), have all joined in the call for Omar to step down. Harshbarger even went so far as to label her a “terrorist sympathizer” and called her comments “treasonous.”
However, Candace Owens surprisingly came to Omar’s defense stating:
