The Warning from Britain
Britain is facing a massive shift in its culture. Nick Freitas, a former Virginia House of Delegates member, has filmed a new documentary to show the world what is happening there. The project was made with The Heritage Foundation and The Blaze. It features experts Mike Gonzalez, Nile Gardiner, and Lora Ries. Freitas says the change in Britain is driven by decades of mass migration from Muslim countries. The political class there refuses to demand that new people assimilate.
Freitas warns that Americans ignore this danger at their own risk. He explains the problem in simple terms. “In the simplest terms, you give it an identity crisis,” he told the Daily Signal. He believes the West is suffering from this now. He sees it becoming a major problem in the United States as well.
A Clash of Worldviews
Freitas visited the United Kingdom because it shares a heritage with America. He found that mass migration has tested British traditions and reshaped its culture. “I’m not talking about differences in dress or festivals or food,” Freitas said. He discusses views that are diametrically opposed regarding the fundamental components of what builds a high-trust society. He lists these components as political, social, theological, and economic.
When migrants arrive with “no genuine interest in assimilating,” he warns, the result is “ultimately destructive.” The film highlights the grooming gang scandal in Britain as a heartbreaking example. Freitas notes that the overwhelming majority of men who organized the abuse were Pakistani. Fear of being labeled Islamophobic caused British police to delay their pursuit of them. “That should just absolutely baffle us,” Freitas said. He urges Americans to see how far the country has moved down this same path.
What Americans Can Do
The Daily Citizen reports on a related warning from Archbishop Fulton Sheen about a culture in crisis. Sheen was a Catholic clergyman who hosted a popular TV show in the 1950s. His program, Life is Worth Living, drew upwards of 30 million viewers each week. When the show won an Emmy, Sheen gave a short speech. Cracking a joke while holding the trophy, he said: “I would like to thank my writers, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John” He was not really joking.
Sheen passed away in December of 1979, but he returned to the headlines this week. The Catholic Church beatified the late clergyman on Thursday in St. Louis. Over 50,000 people attended the Mass and ceremony. Sheen had warned in 1948 that dangerous political ideologies would fill a spiritual vacuum. He stated, “Communism is coming back upon the Western world because something died in the Western world, namely the strong faith of men in the God that made them”
Vote and Teach History
Freitas believes America can change course if people act now. His advice starts with voting in primaries. He estimates only 7% to 8% of voters participate in these elections. He also says parents should not assume local public schools reflect their values. “The teachers don’t select the curriculum,” he said. Rather, he encourages parents to instruct their children on the real history of the United States. That is the surest way the country avoids following Britain’s path.
Sheen also predicted a future where a false church would mimic the true one. “The false prophet will have a religion without a cross,” he ended by saying. Both men point to a loss of faith as the root of the crisis. The Daily Signal notes that Heritage is blunt about the stakes. If Americans do not act, the fate that befell Britain could occur here. The solution lies in the family and the ballot box.
