Melania Declines Invite

Looks like Melania Trump has decided to take a pass on the traditional First Lady tea with Jill Biden. In typical Melania fashion, she’s saying “thanks, but no thanks” to a sit-down with Dr. Biden, and honestly, who could blame her? After everything the media put her through—endless criticism of her “Be Best” campaign, constant mockery of her Christmas décor, and a noticeable absence from magazine covers despite her background as a model—Melania has every reason to skip this “tradition.”

CNN and the Daily Mail report that the tea invitation is “unlikely” to lead to any friendly bonding session, and sources hint at a “scheduling conflict” as the polite excuse. But let’s be real; Melania doesn’t need an excuse. The First Lady tea tradition might mean a lot to some, but for Melania, it’s probably more of a formality she’s perfectly fine to pass up. After all, the last time she met an outgoing First Lady, it didn’t exactly end on a high note.

Remember 2016, when Melania brought a large Tiffany frame as a thoughtful gift for Michelle Obama? Well, Michelle didn’t exactly appreciate the gesture. Instead, she complained about it on Ellen, even suggesting the gift was “like a state visit,” acting as if the whole exchange was some awkward imposition. Funny, though, that Michelle didn’t mention she did the exact same thing in 2009 with Laura Bush. The whole Tiffany frame “scandal” seems like a pretty thin excuse to me, but it fits right in with the media narrative of picking at every little thing Melania did.

And if that wasn’t enough, Michelle later dropped a snarky “Bye, Felicia!” on The Tonight Show, saying that’s what she was thinking as she handed off the First Lady role. Well, it looks like Melania’s response to the Bidens is her own version of “Bye, Felicia.” She’s made it clear she’s not here to play along with D.C. pleasantries, especially after the media and political elite showed her little respect during her tenure.

Now, as she heads back to the White House, Melania’s approach as First Lady 2.0 is pretty straightforward: more experience and less patience for empty gestures. She’s said she’s “not anxious” about resuming her role, and it’s easy to see why. This time, she knows exactly what to expect and is likely much more selective about where she spends her time and energy.

Skipping tea with Jill Biden isn’t about breaking protocol; it’s about sending a clear message. Melania’s focused on her own path, and when it comes to cordial tea time with those who were quick to criticize and slow to support, she’s got better things to do. So Jill might want to keep that kettle cold—Melania’s got her priorities, and tea time with the Bidens isn’t one of them.
