Federal investigators questioned Rep. Ilhan Omar’s older sister last week following a dramatic raid on the congresswoman’s Washington home. Three sources familiar with the probe told Fox News Digital that Sahra Noor voluntarily spoke with agents after the early morning search. The raid on Monday targeted a potential immigration fraud scheme involving the lawmaker’s citizenship paperwork.
Homeland Security Investigations executed the warrant at around 6 a.m. last Monday. Agents seized Omar’s personal phone, passport, and computer during the operation. The Wall Street Journal reported that these items were taken as part of the broader investigation into whether falsified information was used for her naturalization.
The Book Tour Canceled Amid Chaos
Promoting her new book “Salt in the Snow: A Somali Immigrant Story” in the United States, Sahra Noor was present. She had to cancel a scheduled stop in Minnesota last week due to the fallout from the raid. Fox News Digital was informed by a Garden Party Books representative that the event faced cancellation due to a “family emergency” involving Noor. It is now known that she was questioned by federal investigators at that time.
More than a dozen people, including Omar’s relatives, have received subpoenas in the case. The New York Times reported that these subpoenas are part of the ongoing grand jury inquiry in Minnesota. No charges have been filed against Omar or her family members yet.
DNA Evidence and Passport Seizure
Investigators have obtained Omar’s DNA and her personal passport as key pieces of evidence. RedState reported that sources familiar with the probe said the feds used whistleblowers and government records to build their case. The DNA evidence is said to be critical in proving allegations that Omar married her brother in 2009 to help him get a green card.
Reports that agents obtained DNA by “dumpster diving” are incorrect, according to sources. Fox News colleague Bill Melugin reported that the feds are in possession of the DNA and passport. Omar’s official passport has not been retrieved, and authorities do not believe she will flee the country.
The investigation also looks at whether the man who naturalized in 1995 was legally her father. The Daily Wire noted that a certificate of citizenship documents a status rather than creating it. As the Third Circuit explained in 2024, “A certificate does not confer citizenship.” This legal standard is central to the government’s potential case.
Omar has not responded to repeated requests for comment from Fox News Digital. She did post a statement on X hours after the raid, calling it an abuse of power. Describing the raid conducted by Trump’s DHS as an “outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies”, she made these claims. Her attorneys have since demanded the Justice Department return some of the seized property.
Border Czar Tom Homan stated over the weekend that proven allegations could lead to Omar’s denaturalization.
