As President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth helped ring in the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday this weekend, you’d think the folks at MSNBC had just witnessed a unicorn riding a Harley Davidson across the National Mall. Instead of the usual hand-wringing and “danger to democracy” monologues, they were left stunned — yes, stunned — that the celebration didn’t erupt into flames of fascism and doom.
Chris Hayes, bless his heart, looked positively flummoxed on live television. He struggled to reconcile the warm, patriotic vibe of the event with the image MSNBC has worked so hard to craft: Trump supporters as snarling, torch-wielding goons looking for the nearest Constitution to shred. So imagine the internal gears grinding when Hayes had to admit the event felt… nice.
He described Trump rallies as sometimes having a “dark, malevolent energy” — which is media code for “a bunch of Americans wearing red hats and chanting ‘USA’ too enthusiastically for our tastes.” But here was Hayes, reluctantly noting that this particular crowd was, gasp, friendly. Joyful. Family-oriented. The horror! Apparently the attendees didn’t get MSNBC’s memo that they were supposed to look angry and unhinged.
Ali Velshi chimed in from the field, echoing the same astonishment. “People seem to be going out of their way to say that they’re here to celebrate the Army’s 250th birthday,” he reported, seemingly confused by Americans showing pride in their military without staging an insurrection. He even observed people asking for selfies and cheering the parade. At this point, you could almost hear the MSNBC producers scrambling off-camera: Quick! Someone find a Confederate flag! A guy with a bullhorn! Anything!
Oh, and let’s not forget the horror of one man — one — carrying a “TRUMP 2028” sign. This wasn’t a hyper-political rally. It was, dare we say, a celebration. Of America. Of the Army. And of a former President who, unlike the current placeholder in the Oval Office, actually remembers what year it is and doesn’t need cue cards to recall his Defense Secretary’s name.
Over at MSNBC, they’re almost SHOCKED the celebration of the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday isn’t “tense” and doesn’t have “dark, malevolent energy.”

The real story here isn’t the calm crowd or the selfie-snapping attendees. It’s how utterly alien that scene was to the mainstream media. For years, they’ve painted every Trump-affiliated event with the same tired brush: angry mobs, white supremacy, fascist overtones — insert your preferred scary buzzword here. And yet, when faced with reality, their narrative crumbled like a week-old croissant in a New York bodega.
Here’s the thing — it wasn’t supposed to look like this. According to the professional pearl-clutchers at MSNBC, anytime Trump shows up in public, it’s supposed to be an existential crisis for democracy. But what they saw on the National Mall was Americana in its purest form: families, veterans, flags, and yes, former President Trump — all united to honor a 250-year-old institution that protects the very freedoms the left seems increasingly eager to undermine.
It’s almost comical. The same media that hyperventilates over every Trump rally now finds itself trying to explain why tens of thousands of people showed up not to protest, not to riot, but to say “Happy Birthday” to the United States Army. No lectures. No riots. No social justice interpretive dance. Just pride, gratitude, and patriotism — the kind that gives the progressive media an allergy attack.
Anyone who sees this and doesn’t immediately feel immense love of country needs help.

So here’s a tip for Chris Hayes and company: maybe the “dark energy” isn’t coming from the people who wave flags and sing the national anthem. Maybe, just maybe, it’s radiating from the studios of networks that haven’t had a sincere moment of national pride since Reagan left office.
