You really can’t make this stuff up. A former Democratic judge and his wife just got themselves a front-row seat to the consequences of the immigration disaster their party helped create—and it only took Homeland Security kicking down their front door to get there.
Joel and Nancy Cano, proud residents of New Mexico and until recently, part of the “rules for thee, not for me” crowd, are now sitting behind bars after hosting not one, not two, but three people allegedly tied to the Tren de Aragua gang. That’s right, the same Venezuelan crime syndicate the Trump administration rightly designated as a terrorist organization.
Turns out when you roll out the red carpet for illegal immigration, sometimes the guests you get aren’t exactly bringing casseroles. According to federal agents, the Cano family took it a step further by allegedly tampering with evidence and helping one particular guest, Cristhian Ortega-Lopez, cozy up with an arsenal of firearms.
And if that isn’t enough for a Netflix drama pitch, get this: Ortega-Lopez was living right there on the Cano property, enjoying the perks of life in America courtesy of a system that’s been broken for years—and Democrats insisted was “compassionate.”
Joel Cano had already resigned in disgrace back in March after Ortega-Lopez’s first arrest, but the hits just keep coming. Homeland Security found social media posts of Ortega-Lopez brandishing multiple firearms, some reportedly handed to him by none other than Cano’s daughter. Great parenting choices, by the way.
Nothing says “community leadership” quite like giving illegal alien gang members access to weapons. But sure, tell us more about “common sense gun control” and how the real threat is law-abiding American citizens who dare to believe in the Second Amendment.

It gets better: Ortega-Lopez had been caught illegally crossing into Texas in late 2023 and—shockingly—was let go because of overcrowding at a Border Patrol facility. He was handed a Notice to Appear, which, in Democrat-run areas, might as well be a polite suggestion. Of course, he vanished into the wind and found himself in the guest house of a New Mexico judge, living the American Dream courtesy of a broken border and soft-on-crime policies.
Naturally, this little fiasco comes after Trump swept back into office promising to end this nonsense once and for all. Funny how enforcing immigration laws suddenly looks like common sense when a former judge is hiding gang affiliates in his backyard.
Secretary Kristi Noem wasted no time hammering the point home, reminding everyone that under Trump’s renewed leadership, 150,000 illegal aliens have already been arrested—including over 600 Tren de Aragua members. It’s called priorities, people. Not speeches, not hashtags—action.
Meanwhile, the Cano family is cooling off in the Doña Ana County Detention Center, hopefully reflecting on the brilliance of their life choices. And while HSI continues digging, one has to wonder: if this is what they got caught doing, what else has been going on under the “compassionate” cover of sanctuary policies? When even the judges start looking like accomplices, it’s no wonder so many Americans are fed up and demanding law and order.
We are all thinking the same thing here, yeah. https://t.co/pmx7aIjzDg

Joel and Nancy Cano aren’t just an embarrassment—they’re a billboard for everything that’s gone wrong with the Democratic approach to immigration. And thanks to Trump’s return, cases like this aren’t going to be swept under the rug anymore. They’re going to be front-page reminders that the law still means something… at least in an America worth saving.
