Dem Leaders Hold Prayer Service

Well, well, well—while the rest of the nation took a moment to acknowledge Donald Trump’s certification as the next president, the Democrats decided to mark the occasion with a theatrical trip down memory lane, complete with prayers, speeches, and—you guessed it—more melodrama about January 6, 2021.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries took center stage, using the anniversary of the Capitol riot as an opportunity to point fingers, rewrite history, and throw in a few not-so-subtle jabs at Republicans. Because, of course, unity and bipartisanship are just buzzwords when the cameras aren’t rolling.

The event kicked off with House Chaplain Margaret Kibben delivering a prayer that leaned heavily into the theme of “enemies within.” She spoke of turmoil, fear, and frustration—essentially setting the stage for the rest of the sermon-like session. Schumer followed with his own brand of sanctimony, declaring that January 6 must “never be forgotten” and accusing Republicans of trying to “sweep it under the rug.” Forget actual governing; apparently, the Democrats’ new mission is to keep the ghost of January 6 alive indefinitely.

Then came Jeffries, who went full hyperbole mode by borrowing Franklin D. Roosevelt’s famous line about Pearl Harbor—a real attack that killed over 2,400 Americans. Jeffries declared January 6 to be “a day that will forever live in infamy,” as if a few hours of chaos at the Capitol somehow ranks alongside a world-altering act of war. Talk about perspective, right? While January 6 was undeniably chaotic and wrong, comparing it to Pearl Harbor is like calling a fender bender the Titanic sinking.

Jeffries’ speech conveniently skipped over his own history of election denial. Back in 2019, he floated the idea that Donald Trump wasn’t a “legitimate president” and entertained the tired, debunked “Russian asset” conspiracy theory. It’s classic Democratic strategy: accuse your opponents of doing the very things you’ve been doing for years but with an air of righteous indignation.

Schumer, ever the drama king, wrapped things up with a dire warning about Trump’s potential pardoning of January 6 defendants. According to Schumer, such a move would send a “terrible example” to the world. Funny, though, how he didn’t seem so worried about setting a bad example when he stood outside the Supreme Court in 2020 and essentially threatened Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch over abortion rights. “You won’t know what hit you,” Schumer bellowed back then, proving that his commitment to civility only extends as far as the political winds blow.

Let’s not forget the Democrats’ broader strategy here. They’re using January 6 as a political weapon, endlessly replaying the events of that day to keep their narrative alive and frame their opponents as dangerous threats to democracy. Meanwhile, they conveniently overlook their own rhetoric, actions, and history of questioning election results whenever it suits them. Schumer and Jeffries would love for Americans to believe they’re the guardians of democracy, but their selective outrage and hypocrisy tell a different story.

This prayer session wasn’t about reflection or healing—it was about doubling down on divisiveness. While Trump’s victory signals a new chapter for the country, the Democrats seem content to cling to their tired playbook. Unfortunately for them, the American people have seen through the theatrics. It’s time to move forward, but clearly, Schumer and Jeffries didn’t get the memo.
