Biden Visits Florida After Milton

Joe Biden’s visit to St. Pete Beach, Florida, to survey the damage from Hurricane Milton went about as predictably as you’d expect. With nearly 800,000 people still without power, 17 lives lost, and communities devastated, Biden managed to do what he does best—make it about himself. In the middle of speaking to people who had just lost everything, he shared his favorite tall tale about that time “lightning” struck his house and caused a fire.

Yes, while standing in front of hurricane survivors who have lost their homes, Biden decided to relate by talking about the minor kitchen fire in his Delaware home back in 2004. He even went as far as claiming he knew “from experience how devastating it is to lose your home.” Except, there’s one small problem—his house didn’t actually burn down. The fire department at the time said it was a “small fire” that was under control in 20 minutes and contained to the kitchen. Yet here’s Biden, spinning it into some personal tragedy so he can somehow relate to these people who’ve just watched their lives get washed away.

It’s not just offensive—it’s insulting. It’s like he’s incapable of showing empathy without centering himself in the story. And this isn’t the first time he’s pulled this stunt. Remember the Maui fires? He told those grieving families how he “almost lost his wife, his ’67 Chevy, and his cat” during the same kitchen fire. As if a brief kitchen mishap compares to entire towns being reduced to ashes. It’s tone-deaf at best and downright disrespectful at worst.

Instead of listening to the real, heart-wrenching stories of loss, Biden once again rambles on about his own inflated experiences. What he should have done is just admit that he can’t fully understand what they’re going through. That would’ve at least been honest. But instead, we get these embellished stories that seem more about feeding his ego than offering genuine comfort.

This is the same story he told when he visited Hawaii during the fire.

And to top it off, on Friday, Biden seemed to issue a thinly veiled threat against anyone daring to question the government’s hurricane response, warning that they’d “pay a price” for spreading “disinformation.” The irony is just rich. The man who can’t tell the truth about a kitchen fire is lecturing people about disinformation? Imagine how Floridians would feel if they knew Biden’s go-to story was a fabrication. He’s out there wagging his finger about “misinformation” while peddling his own.

If Biden really wanted to connect with these hurricane survivors, maybe he should’ve skipped the self-aggrandizing stories and just listened for once. But that’s asking a lot from a guy who never misses an opportunity to make it all about him.
