Hello everyone!

Today’s topic is bound to spark some debate. A new CBS News poll reveals a significant portion of voters are in favor of a federal program to deport all illegal aliens residing in the United States. This comes amid increasing border crossings under the Biden administration. Let’s dive into the details.

Nearly 60% of voters, including a surprising one-third of Democrats and a staggering nine out of ten Republicans, support the idea of a mass deportation effort. This poll, conducted from June 5 to June 7, highlights the growing divide in opinions on immigration policy.

Furthermore, a similar majority supports empowering local law enforcement to apprehend illegal immigrants. Just under half of registered voters believe it’s a good idea to build large government detention centers for processing illegal immigrants for potential deportation.

Former President Trump has made immigration a cornerstone of his campaign. At a Fox News town hall in January, he promised to launch the “largest deportation effort in the history of our country” if reelected. He also pledged to complete the border wall, a project he started during his first term but was halted under the Biden administration.

In addition to these measures, Trump has vowed to “immediately deport” foreign students involved in anti-Israel protests amidst ongoing campus demonstrations that have caused disruptions in academia.

The CBS News poll results left host Margaret Brennan stunned, as she noted the broad demand for mass deportations. She pointed out that the Department of Homeland Security claims President Biden has deported or repatriated more people in the past year than any year since 2010. Brennan also mentioned that some of Trump’s proposals might be illegal, depending on the specifics discussed on the campaign trail.

An earlier poll by Axios in April found similar sentiments, with 51% of Americans, including 42% of Democrats, supporting mass deportations of illegal aliens. This poll also showed some approval for Trump-proposed immigration restrictions, such as ending birthright citizenship, though this is opposed by 30% of Democrats and 46% of Republicans.

The primary concerns driving these opinions are increased crime and drug trafficking, the financial burden on taxpayers, and threats to national security.

Brennan questioned the practicality of mass deportations, particularly involving children, and noted that courts have raised doubts about whether local authorities have the power to carry out such actions, given the federal government’s limited resources.

Adding fuel to the fire, the Biden administration posted on social media, aiming to highlight what they viewed as Trump’s extreme positions. They listed “mass deportations, travel bans, federal troops in high-crime areas, and the upheaval of the deep state” as potential policies under Trump’s leadership. However, this post backfired and went viral for all the wrong reasons, receiving a flood of critical comments.

The comments just kept coming!

This poll highlights the heated and often fiery debate around immigration in the U.S. As the country tries to figure out these tricky issues, it’s obvious that people have very different opinions on how to deal with illegal immigration, and many are leaning toward Trump’s views.

Stay tuned, folks, as we keep an eye on how these discussions evolve.
