Last week, CNN reported that Affinity Partners holds a large stake in an Israeli firm. This firm allegedly profits from the war in Gaza. Days later, the New York Times linked Kushner to a deal involving Lukoil. Lukoil is a Russian energy company sanctioned by the United States. This oil deal is part of efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Kushner pushed back against the CNN report in a statement. He said the Israeli company is “not a defense company.” He called it the “Israeli equivalent of Vanguard or Fidelity.” According to him, “the only deals they are doing are on behalf of the United States of America” The White House usually dismisses these critiques. But this time, the questions are getting louder inside the party.

Democrats Prepare to Investigate

Two Democrats are ready to look into these matters if they win control. Rep. Jamie Raskin wants Kushner to document how his job mixes with his investments. Rep. Robert Garcia sent a letter to Affinity Partners on Monday. He claimed the committee is “investigating the unprecedented and dangerous way in which President Trump and his family have profited directly from their access to power” Raskin and Garcia are popular with the base. They plan to make this a main part of their midterm message. Kushner might face a congressional investigation in the new year. The Washington Examiner reported these details.

Republican Candidates Weigh Their Options

The fallout from these stories might hurt Republicans in close races. Some candidates are worried about the President’s low approval rating. A recent poll put his rating at a record-low 32%. Other issues like high gas prices also worry the party. The Washington Examiner contacted nearly 20 Republican campaigns. Most did not answer. But three campaigns said they welcome the President’s help. One spokesperson for Sen. Darline Graham said, “South Carolina is Trump country.” A separate North Carolina campaign stated, “Who better drives GOP turnout in NC — Tillis or Trump” They remarked, “We welcome President Trump back to NC any time” Yet, some fear the business scandal could change the mood. The media’s coverage “does not deter Jared — or the rest of President Trump’s team — from fighting every day to advance America’s interests,” a statement read.

The timing of these investigations could decide the outcome of the 2026 midterm elections. The party must decide how to handle a leader who is also a businessman. The voters will have to decide if the deals matter more than the results. The investigation moves forward while the campaigns prepare for the next fight.
