The Senate has been asking what Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) is going to do for the last several years. He often is the roadblock to many of the radical left proposals in Congress.
And now the question revolves around his political future, and he is not giving any hints about his plans which could include a run for the presidency.
When he was on CBS News’s “Face the Nation,” he was asked whether or not he would endorse President Joe Biden for re-election in 2024, and he said, “Let’s see who is involved. Let’s wait until we see who all the players are.”
When he was asked about his own political future, Manchin didn’t let on any real insights. He said, “I will make my political decision in December, whatever it may be.”
Manchin is up for re-election in 2024 as well, and he seems to be keeping his political options open at this time.
When moderator Margaret Brennan claimed Manchin ruled out a presidential run, the senator responded with a denial.
“I didn’t say that. I didn’t say anything about that,” he said.
Now the West Virginia senator did not say he was considering a run for the White House, he just deferred on releasing any plans for his “political future” until the year’s end.
“I’ve got too much work to do now,” he said.
Manchin focused on his immediate priorities which include going after “runaway” debt, inflation, energy security, and the chaos at the southern border.
This interview comes on the heels of another where he declined to even call himself a Democrat when he was asked. He said that he identified as an “American, through and through.”
The Democratic Party barely controls the Senate now. There are actually more Republicans in the upper chamber, but the Democrats benefit from the Independents who caucus with them.
