Special Counsel jack Smith’s office has requested when he wants the trial for former President Donal Trump.
In a filing on Thursday, the special counsel’s office requested a January 2, 2024 trial date estimating that the proceeding would take “no longer than four to six weeks.
If US Magistrate Judge Moxila A Upadhyaya approve the date, former President Donald Trump’s trial could be done before Super Tuesday.
(Things that make you go hmmmm)
When Trump learned of Smith’s request he was furious.
“Deranged Jack Smith has just asked for a trial on the Biden Indictment to take place on January 2nd., just ahead of the important Iowa Caucuses,” Mr Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Thursday. “Only an out of touch lunatic would ask for such a date, ONE DAY into the New Year, and maximum Election Interference with IOWA! Such a trial, which should never take place due to my First Amendment Rights, and massive BIDEN CORRUPTION, should only happen, if at all, AFTER THE ELECTION. The same with other Fake Biden Indictments. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!”
In a rare move of bipartisanship Republican and Democrat lawmakers are requesting that the judges involved in the federal indictments televise the trials.
“It is imperative the [court] ensures timely access to accurate and reliable information surrounding these cases and all of their proceedings, given the extraordinary national importance to our democratic institutions and need for transparency,” a group of 38 House Democrats wrote.
Lawyers who have represented former President Trump have also signaled they want the trial televised as well.
“I personally would love to see that,” John Lauro, former Trump attorney said during an itnerview. “I’m convinced the Biden administration does not want the American people to see the truth. And they acted on it by filing this protective order, which is an effort to keep important information about this case from the press.”
Trump has also demanded that the judges allow cameras in the courtroom and has plans to formally request it.
