The atrocities that are beginning to come to light in Ukraine are horrifying. They are completely shocking, and they rattle the very core of our humanity.
They are “war crimes”, no doubt, but crimes against God as well. Bodies litter the streets, like boulders in a stream of their own blood. Women were raped, bodies immolated. Innocents were bound and executed.
The imagery was enough to prompt the White House to take drastic action, and against members of Vladimir Putin’s immediate family.
The United States on Wednesday announced sanctions targeting Russian President Vladimir Putin’s two adult daughters and said it was toughening penalties against Russian banks in retaliation for “war crimes” in Ukraine.
The moves against Sberbank and Alfa Bank prohibit assets from touching the U.S. financial system and bar Americans from doing business with those institutions.
And, what’s more:
In addition to sanctions aimed at Putin’s adult daughters, Mariya Putina and Katerina Tikhonova, the U.S. is targeting Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin; the wife and children of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov; and members of Russia’s Security Council, including Dmitry Medvedev, a former president and prime minister.
Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that the world should be prepared for the discovery of more atrocities in the coming days, while also suggesting that these acts of barbarism are far worse than what occurred even during WWII in the region.
