While President Trump was recuperating at the White House, Mike Pence was putting in work down in the Sunshine State.
Trump had caught COVID-19 sometime around two weeks ago, and was forced to spend a few nights in Walter Reed Medical Center before returning to the White House for some rest. Seeing as the 2020 election is right around the corner, however, the campaign felt the need to continue to reach out to voters in Florida, and they sent Vice President Mike Pence to drum up support for the ticket.
While Pence was speaking, however, Florida’s Democrats unleashed one heck of a stunt on the stunned rally crowd.
As Mike Pence spoke to retirees in Florida on Saturday, a banner towed by a plane flew over his head: “Pence is why you can’t see your grandkids.” The vice president addressed members of The Villages, the nation’s largest retirement community, warning the largely maskless crowd that the election would determine “whether America remains America.” It was not immediately clear who was behind the banner, which was captured on video. The Villages, usually a conservative stronghold, seems more and more contested territory in the 2020 election. On the same day as Pence’s speech, a parade of golf carts carrying senior citizens headed towards the polls to drop off ballots for former Vice President Joe Biden.
With the 2020 election just a few weeks away now, it is safe to assume that we’ll bear witness to several similar stunts in the coming days.
