The priories of our public servants are all wrong, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is living proof of such.
At one point in our history, our elected officials were beholden to their constituents. To be fair, they still are, at least on paper, but not much of what they seem to spend their time on has any sort of positive impact on Americans anymore.
Instead, these politicians spend their days arguing with one another or stuffing their pockets with lobbyists’ cash.
For instance, as the nation stands precariously perched on the precipice of a complete economic meltdown and an eviction crisis unlike anything we’ve ever seen, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of Congress went on recess. And, to add insult to injury, they’ve canceled that recess for the express purpose of combatting Donald Trump…not to face this looming humanitarian catastrophe.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calling the House back into session over the crisis at the U.S. Postal Service, setting up a political showdown amid growing concerns that the Trump White House is trying to undermine the agency ahead of the election.
Pelosi is cutting short lawmakers’ summer recess with a vote expected Saturday on legislation that would prohibit changes at the agency as tensions mount. President Donald Trump’s new postmaster general, Louis DeJoy, has sparked nationwide outcry over delays, new prices and cutbacks just as millions of Americans will be trying to vote by mail to avoid polling places during the coronavirus outbreak.
“In a time of a pandemic, the Postal Service is Election Central,” Pelosi wrote Sunday in a letter to colleagues, who had been expected to be out of session until September. “Lives, livelihoods and the life of our American Democracy are under threat from the president.”
What Pelosi has failed to realize is that homeless Americans will have a heck of a time voting by mail.
