Donald Trump is likely set to announce his bid for the 2024 presidential race any day now, as the midterm election season begins to edge toward closure and our attentions prepare to turn.

The idea of declaring his candidacy ahead of the end of the midterms was fraught with peril, as it could entice broad-stroke attacks from Democrats that would wreak havoc on the “red wave”.

But now, just ahead of when most political observers believe that the inevitability of a Trump announcement is reaching its crescendo, some prominent members of the GOP are attempting to tamp down his enthusiasm.

Former Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), who served as speaker of the House from 2015 to 2019, is skeptical that his party can win if former President Donald Trump is once again the nominee.

Ryan didn’t hold back.

“It’s going to be palpable in 2024 that because we want to win and beat the Democrats, we know as a party we’re better off with somebody else to be our nominee to guarantee a victory because we know we lose with Trump,” Ryan told Yahoo Finance Live (video above). “It’s the suburban voter. They’re the big difference maker.”

Trump is still undoubtedly the most influential figure in conservative politics, and his mastery over the MAGA Movement makes him an essential element of any vote-gathering strategy.
