Of all of the slick soothsayers who’ve predicted the end of the world as we know it, perhaps none was less expected than liberal kingmaker George Soros.
Men like Nostradamus and Marshall Applewhite are among the less-than-sane folks who’ve decided that they and they alone could tell us when our world would come crumbling down – one via the obsessive writings he felt compelled to commit to paper, and the other through a suicide pact with a number of his fellow comet-watchers. Neither truly had much to lose.
But George Soros, one of the world’s richest and most influential men, is now predicting an end to our civilization, and it has international observers taking notice.
US billionaire George Soros warned Tuesday that “civilization may not survive” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine but said Europe could have a stronger position against President Vladimir Putin regarding gas than it realises.
In his traditional dinner speech on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in the Swiss mountain town of Davos, the Hungarian-born investor and philanthropist said the war has “shaken Europe to its core.”
His predictions were dire.
“The invasion may have been the beginning of the Third World War and our civilization may not survive it,” Soros said.
“We must mobilise all our resources to bring the war to an early end. The best and perhaps only way to preserve our civilization is to defeat Putin as soon as possible,” he said.
Soros is a notorious figure in conservative circles, having long found himself to be wrapped up in a number of conspiracy theories, (and conspiracy facts that have been proven true after time).
