The future of our American political peace is uncertain, as much as we truly wish to just move past the tumult of the last 6 months.
It was only early this year that an angry mob entered the US Capitol chanting “hang Mike Pence” and threatening to somehow prevent the certification of the 2020 electoral college votes.
And while Joe Biden is undoubtedly working from the West Wing these days, there are still a great many Americans who wonder if the contest he won to get there wasn’t rigged somehow. In fact, a powerful group of these folks are working in Maricopa County, Arizona as we speak to recount the ballots and see if there was any funny business afoot.
One state-level lawmaker is not amused, however.
A GOP state senator blasted the 2020 election vote audit in an Arizona county, saying “it makes us look like idiots.”
“Looking back, I didn’t think it would be this ridiculous. It’s embarrassing to be a state senator at this point,” Arizona state Sen. Paul Boyer, who previously supported the audit in Maricopa County, added on Friday, according to The New York Times.
Republicans in the Arizona state Senate advanced an audit of the 2020 election vote in Maricopa County last month, even after multiple audits since November found that the vote was counted accurately.
An individual’s belief about the results of the 2020 election have become a sort of political litmus test within the Republican Party as of late, and will likely remain in focus until at least the 2024 election’s candidates begin to hit the road.
