It’s almost impossible to board an airplane and not think about the risk that you’re taking. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve loaded up and taken off – there’s just something about the experience that humbles us an reminds us of how very fragile we are as human beings.
Luckily, airplane accidents are rather rare. When they do occur, they are heartbreaking and extraordinary, certainly, but the infrequent nature of the issue is the saving grace.
Just days ago, the world avoided the tragedy of such an incident – but just barely – and it made for some compelling video footage.
A United Airlines flight experienced engine failure after taking off from Denver International Airport on Saturday but landed safely after dropping debris over northern Colorado, officals said.
The Hawaii-bound jet was a Boeing 777 with 10 crew members and 231 passengers on board, according to reports.
Frightening video recorded from inside the plane showed the damaged engine on fire.
“When it initially happened, I thought we were done. I thought we were going down,” passenger David Delucia, who was traveling with his wife, told The Associated Press.
Social media users were awestruck when they saw what occurred.
