It’s a story that’s grabbing headlines across the country – former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is being evicted from her Capitol Hill hideaway office.

House Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry, who is currently the acting Speaker of the House, has ordered former Speaker Nancy Pelosi to vacate her office immediatley. According to POLITICO, an email sent to Pelosi’s office said the room will now be “for speaker office use,” and that it will be “re-keyed.”

The eviction comes after House Democrats sided with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and seven other Republicans to oust the previous Speaker of the House, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, from his speakership. This is the first time in U.S. history that the House has removed a speaker.

Pelosi has since fumed about the eviction, calling it a “sharp departure from tradition” and noting that she previously gave former Speaker Dennis Hastert a “significantly larger suite of offices for as long as he wished” during her tenure.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ staff have since helped Pelosi’s office make the move. In a statement, Pelosi has called the move a “sharp departure from tradition.”

Pelosi has expressed her frustration with the eviction, as she had previously provided long-term Speaker Dennis Hastert a larger suite of offices during her tenure.

We’ve also learned that before the vote was cast to oust McCarthy, Democrats tried to cut a deal with him to keep his position. He declined, and they seemed to have cut a deal with the dissenting Republicans.

There’s a lot of infighting, but at least Pelosi is mad.
