For months, the Biden Administration and the eco-left have been trying to distract from their true goals: the implementation of their radical climate agenda, no matter the cost to American families. Now their latest scheme is coming to light: a tax on the energy that heats nearly half of the American homes.
The Biden Administration calls it a “methane fee,” but the Congressional Budget Office calls it a tax. Tucked away in the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act,” this new tax will take effect in 2024 and will hit domestic producers and American families the hardest. It is estimated to generate between $1-2 billion in revenue each year for Washington.
The cost burden of energy on working families is already high — according to the Census Bureau, more than 1 in 5 families could not pay their energy bills over the last year — and this new tax will make it worse. In some cases, the cost of energy is second only to a family’s mortgage.
Meanwhile, the Biden Administration and certain members of Congress have been throwing subsidy after subsidy at the rich in the form of electric vehicles and solar home credits. They’ve done this while ignoring the plight of those struggling to make ends meet.
Thankfully, a new Congress means a new chance to save working families from this looming financial burden. Texas Congressman August Pfluger has introduced a bill to repeal the natural gas tax and stop this insanity before it begins. Noting Biden’s new tax will hit low-income families the hardest, this bill should pass quickly.
Joe Biden and the eco-left have already proven they are more than willing to sacrifice American families at the altar of their radical climate agenda. We must stand up to them and protect our families from the financial burden of their schemes. We must also remember that cheap distractions can be very costly.
