For years, the liberal left have been getting closer and closer to fracturing the Democratic Party in two.
The youth of the party, the ones who’ve been by the side of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders all these years, are trying to pry a controlling interest of the organization away from their moderate comrades. Of course, as we all learned in 2016’s primary-rigging scandal, the Democratic Party is not about to bring Bernie Sanders to the head of the table.
In 2020 there was no readily apparent tomfoolery to speak of, (or at least is hasn’t been unearthed as of this writing), but the Bernie Bros have been extremely vocal in their opposition to Joe Biden.
Now, with an unexpected announcement, Sanders has driven a wedge further into the party’s base.
In a surprise appearance on a campaign livestream, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden for the Democratic presidential nomination.
“Today, I am asking all Americans, I’m asking every Democrat, I’m asking every Independent, I’m asking a lot of Republicans, to come together in this campaign to support your candidacy, which I endorse — to make certain that we defeat somebody who I believe — and I’m speaking just for myself now — is the most dangerous president in the modern history of this country,” Sanders said, joining Biden.
The significant endorsement and show of party unity came far earlier in this cycle than in 2016, when Sanders was criticized for his late exit from the Democratic primary. The Vermont senator also faced criticism for not immediately offering an explicit endorsement of Biden after suspending his own presidential campaign less than a week ago to unify the party ahead of the November election against President Donald Trump.
In Twitter, Sanders’ supporters were livid, and continued to promote their new talking points regarding the credible sexual assault allegations against the former Vice President.
The Democratic civil war is on, folks, and there’s no telling how depraved this could get.
