Bellicose Beijing Fires of Missiles and Sanctions After Pelosi’s Jaunt

The world was already well aware of the fact that China wasn’t thrilled about US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s recent trip to Taiwan, but instead of quietly demonstrating their disapproval like adults, Beijing has decided to stamp their feet and throw a bit of a temper tantrum.

Just days after Pelosi left Taipei, China launched a series of ballistic missiles over the heads of the Taiwanese, while also positioning several naval fighter groups around the island nation, for alleged “military drills”.

Now, in addition, Beijing is sanctioning Pelosi herself.

China has announced sanctions against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and her family, following her visit to Taiwan which China strongly condemned.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced the sanctions on Friday, calling Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan an “egregious provocation” and a “gross interference” into the country’s internal affairs.

Beijing didn’t mince their words.

“In disregard of China’s grave concerns and firm opposition, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi insisted on visiting China’s Taiwan region. This constitutes a gross interference in China’s internal affairs,” the spokesperson said. “It gravely undermines China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, seriously tramples on the one-China principle, and severely threatens peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”

And while the actions may seem severe, we have to remember that “WWIII” was trending on Twitter in the hours ahead of Pelosi’s touchdown in Taipei.
