For months, the saga surrounding the death of Gabby Petito has dragged on, with the very real, (and sad), possibility that there will never be any true justice for her demise.
Petito’s body was found after an exhaustive, nationwide search, strangled to death in Wyoming near a campsite that she had visited with her fiancé Brian Laundrie. Laundrie had returned home to Florida without Petito some weeks before her body was discovered, and he himself had gone missing just days ahead of the grisly revelation.
Then, weeks later, the partial remains of Laundrie were discovered in a wildlife preserve near his parents’ home.
His cause of death has now been revealed.
Deceased fugitive Brian Laundrie died of suicide, a forensic anthropologist told Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino on Tuesday.
Laundrie took his own life with a gunshot wound to the head, Bertolino said.
Bertolino’s next statement did not sit well with many, however.
“Chris and Robert are still mourning the loss of their son and are hopeful that these findings bring closure to both families,” he said.
While Laundrie’s suicide appears to give the impression that he was guilt-ridden, and therefore likely the cause of Petito’s death, as of this writing there has been no definitive recounting of the slain girl’s final moments.
A notebook found near Laundrie’s remains was purported by police to be at least partially salvageable, but no further information has been revealed regarding the journal at this time.
